Lennox & Addington Seniors Outreach Services Inc. received its Charter of Incorporation in April 1986. It however, traces its origins to 1980 when a group of local seniors identified the need for transportation for the elderly in the Town of Napanee. The outcome of this need was met by hiring a school bus each Tuesday. Service clubs and merchants funded this service. Twenty-five years later this service is still provided. From this single initiative evolved the organization, which today we know as L&A SOS.
L&A SOS is a community support service agency providing health care to seniors in south central Lennox and Addington.
L&A SOS first location was in the Lennox & Addington County Hospital. The initial health services included foot care, meals on wheels, weekly bus services and friendly visiting. In the first two years one staff member and a group of volunteers took on the operation of L&A SOS. Due to the rapid growth there was a need for additional space L&A SOS moved to the Masonic Hall basement located on Bridge Street in Napanee in 1989. More growth of health care services meant a need for additional space and so L&A SOS moved to their current location at the Napanee Lions Hall in 1997.
